Many of you may not be aware of this, but about three centuries ago the Mexican people really loved mayonnaise. They put it on everything, especially tortillas. Mayonnaise was actually a large part of the Mexican culture.
In the year 1734, a fleet of several ships left London loaded to capacity with Hellman's mayonnaise. The Mexicans were greatly anticipating the arrival of their beloved mayonnaise. But there was a violent storm while the ships were enroute, and the entire fleet was lost.
The Mexican people still mourn this loss today, as they celebrate Sinko de Mayo.
