My wife and I are going to Italy next year. I'd like to sneak in some detecting, but I don't want to run afoul of the Carabinieri. Anyone have any tips on finding information about detecting in Italy.
I've done a Google search and not come up with much.

The best person to ask is Jimmy Sierra. www.jimmysierra.com He hunts in Europe alot and maybe able to help you. As for Italy, have a great time I wish I was going there soon.

I live in Rome - the area north of Rome, around Lake Bolsena, would be great for metal detecting - it's an Etruscan area. I have found a couple of artifacts myself. The beaches are a good bet, but only for coins and nicnacs.
