Ebner’s Hotel Demolition Project 118 & 120 K Street, Old Sacramento Review and Comment on Demolition Project Old Sacramento National Historic Landmark (NHL) Historic District Demolition crews Tuesday morning began taking down the 147-year-old Ebner Hotel in Old Sacramento. After hours of public testimony on the merits of historic preservation versus the need to use limited city resources for other work in Old Sacramento, the City Council voted last month to demolish the building at 116 K St. Redevelopment officials said they will look for a developer willing to build a replica, at a lesser cost, at the site. The Ebner, constructed in 1856, is famous as a place John Sutter visited, and most likely slept in, city historian Jim Henley said. It had been altered numerous times since then, losing much of its original facade, including a dramatic cupola on its roof, and has been gutted and increasingly unstable for decades. Too bad it is "off Limits" not worth pressing my luck for a old coin or two!! HH Ron (CA)
