"Someone in our neighbourhood put a huge sofa out by the curb for trash collection. Since it was in good shape, many motorists slowed down for a look. But when they saw how enormous it was, they'd leave. Eventually a compact car pulled up, and two men got out. "This I've got to see," I thought. They removed the cushions, turned the sofa upside down, and shook it hard. Then they picked up all the coins that tumbled out and drove off." Many many many moons ago I ran an upholstrey shop and filled quart jars with the coins, rings and other odd things that I found in furniture! Dan3

Thats funny!About a week ago I was headed to Sac to pic my Granny up at the airport.I stopped at a gas station, and went to put air in my tire. When I stuck th 50 cents in, I heard a quarter hit the ground, but the compressor started up anyway.Well, I looked at the bottomof the machine and saw the cover was off it, and there where quarters everywhere!I ended up getting $6 worth of quarters laying under that machine!

I'm not strong enough to turn a big couch upside down and shake it. (Upside down and drop it a couple times maybe....) BUT, I'd sure stop by that gas station on a regular basis!

I agree, you can find treasure in the most unexpected places. Some friends and I were helping another friend move to her new house. A very nice old home by the way, and in the garage we found some coins, wich one of them turned to be a silver 1902 Barber dime. While in the Mid-West, and while I was working, I used to go to the Vending machine that was located in the Break room. One time, couple of my quarters felt under the vending machine, so I try to pick them up, not only I recovered my two quarters but find a bunch more. So here goes another idea: Now and on, not only check underneath the gas pumps, but underneath the vending machines as well... ;D ;D

Those are great stories; I would like to add mine:
Not too long ago I got a 60 Franklin Half in change from a liquor store, I asked the guy if had more, but he just had Kennedys. I hadn't gotten out metal detecting because my wife was pregnant and needed me. The metal detecting gods were smiling on me though, because when I went to get my wife some Baskin Robbins, I got an 1887 Indian Head in change. Checking my spare change a few days later, I found a 1954 Quarter. Treasure is where you find it indeed. JimClick

Yes, I've learned to always look at the change I recieve you never know. ;D I like the idea of the couch theroy. Were I live, we see alot of couches dumped along the side of the road in the orange groves. Knowing my luck, I'll be blamed for dumping there though! lol ;D
