I know you guys in Ca. will laugh, since you're able to hunt year-round. But, in Ohio we haven't had the greatest winter. It's no fun to try to hunt in snow and/or take a chisel to try to chip frozen ground. But, last weekend temp. was about 50, and my Explorer XS ("Julius") was chomping at the bit to go outside. I went to a local spot, which is usually good for a couple of $, and thought I'd see what turned up. I was pleasantly surprised to get a new high total for one day in clad coins, with $15.91 and this very nice sterling .925 St. Christopher's medal. Maybe it's a good sign that the new year will be a good one. Happy hunting to all from Carolyn in Ohio.

Carolyn.......
I would say that you and Julius dance well together.
Congratulations on your "one day" record for clad, very impressive, indeed.
As you know Chris is the guardian of travelers, perhaps there's a trip in your near future. (Calif?)
Great pic's, we love pic's.
Looking forward to your next post........
'ello to Julius.

Very nice Carolyn! Good to get the cobwebs off of Julian I'll bet! My mother in law calls him Mr. Christopher because he was de-cannonized (sp?) a while back. Always good to get some silver though. Enjoyed your post and pic. Keep em coming! Dan3

Well, I just returned from my second trip, and it was a real bummer. Last year I found some nice IH cents, a Barber dime, CW token and a few artifacts at an 1850's farmhouse not too far from me. Every once in a while I'll go there to see if I can find anything else. Today all I found was an old nail about 6" deep. I think I can cross this place off my list. And, Ralph, I do have a trip planned soon, but not to Ca. I'll be in Ky. for a few days but hope to get out a few days down there to hunt. Goldhart, I had heard that Chris was demoted, too, but I think it's still a nice medal to add to my collection of religious items. Jim--I have names for all my detectors. Another one I use quite often is "Caesar", which was a variation of CZer for the Fisher CZ6a. So, it's only natural that Julius/Caesar usually go on trips and alternate detecting time. This is really a nice forum. Now, I'll have to figure out how to do a lot of the extras I've seen--like the signature and maybe different colors. Have a good day, everybody.

Hello Carolyn,
I would love someday to metal detect in old Kentucky. I've been doing a lot of family genealogy and my great great great grandfather was one of the first pioneers that settled in Kentucky just shortly after the Revolutionary War. Old William Elliott (Ellit) was a scout for Geneal Arthur St. Claire. He was with General St. Claire in Ohio and was sent out to get reinforcements, and when he returned he found 700 of St. Claire's men (and families) were killed. After St. Claire's army was dismissed, many of the soldiers went to, what is now, Louisville KY to build houses. William Elliott built the first house in Louisville (probable log or wood frame.) From Louisville, he migrated to Hardin Co (LaRue) KY.
The other day I pulled up a map on the computer of Louisville and boy it sure has changed when old William first settled in the area.
Good luck on your vacation and I hope that you find some old coins and artifacts and maybe you just might find something that my ggg grandfather had dropped over 200 years ago.
