As many know I was taken on a blast off Sunday.
I saw a side to Jeff I didn't know he had.
I had to climb or as it were fall into the co-piolets cockpit which I accomplished without much help. Then time to buckel up, & it seemed like there were a dozen belts but I guess it wasn't that many. Man I had one around my right arm & over my sholder & Jeff wasn't happy with that for he secured my other arm & sholder & by now I don't know if one was around my waist or not & I've yet to figure out what that was that he rapped around my neck but at this point I figured I was in no position to argue.
Well we took off down the freeway with G forces exceeding 4.8 & that was fun all right.
But I must tell you the final chapter. As we were rounding the 270 degree point of the 101 a motorcycle had beem following us to blow us off the road, I looked at Jeff & witnessed a metamorphose taking place that was quite frightning & I ant scared of nuthing, normally that is.
I witnessed Jeff's face began to twist from the approaching intensity of combat, his eye's began to squint to little slit's as he began to fether the tracksion of those 22 inch wide tire's, & the faster we got, the faster the firebreather excellerated, better traction of course. But we servived that encounter, & yes the motorcycle ate exaust fumes & inhaled smoking rubber for his effort's.
Ralph said I'm wearing out his key-board & he want's his turn so I better go but I'll tell you one thing, the next time Jeff say's anything to me, my reply will be-----
YES SIR ......................................j im

Great story. I remember as a kid going to Santa Cruz - "the Boardwalk" as we called it, for the carnival part was our destination, and there were hotrods all over. If I recall it was kind of a place to show off your car, or, if I may say, your rod. ;D
Are you a throwback, JK - a contrast to the latter-day image of Birkenstocks and left-wing politics (and mind, you nothing wrong with either), or are there still a lot of street rods seen in Santa Cruz?

Hi Tom, I guess I am a throwback to some degree, I remember around high school time (1986) the "Beach Street Revival" was quite a show, thousands of car fans lining Beach Street (near the Boardwalk) until after midnight, and great cars everywhere. Alas, those days are gone, and there's very few hot rods left. Many sit in garages, and when I take mine out, the hippies yell and flip me off, since I'm wasting precious natural resources to drive such a monstrosity.
Heck, only last night, a peacenik came to my front door, and tried to "sell" me peace. When I told her I wasn't interested, she said "You're not interested in Peace??", as if I must just be the dregs of society for despising solicitors at 8PM when I'm trying to have a nice evening with my wife at home. I thought for a second, and said "No", and promptly shut the door.
Yes, Santa Cruz is full of the left-wing thinkers, and while I don't agree with most of their ideals, I also understand that they probably don't agree with the ideals that I hold dear, and somewhere we have to find the guts to live together. It's a mad, mad world.

It's a mad, mad world. Great post. Somewhere in there I got the feeling that the UC there ended up getting its "attitude" permeated throughout the town of Santa Cruz. I grew up in an extremely liberal academic family and in the process of experiencing life and in large part due to my exposure to the family court process, my thinking - and thus my politics - changed considerably. I now find the radical left as repulsive as the radical right. Generally, I can't stand people who think that they have the right to tell one how to think.. "Now I ain't braggin' so don't put me down, But I got the fastest set of wheels in town..." ;D Tach it up, Buddy!

Hey Ray, yeah, Summit seems to be my best friend It's a 470 cubic inch big block chevy motor (actually a 427 tall deck block with a 454 crank, block is bored 0.070" over making about 470ci. Compression before boost is about 8.75:1. It's got JE blower pistons on Eagle rods with L19 bolts that should be good to 1400HP. The blower is a Mooneyham, currently running 1:1 and making about 6-7psi of boost. On top of that is a pair of carb shop Holleys set up for the blower. The cam is CompCam's biggest mechanical blower cam (270/280* @ 0.050" (!)) on a 114LSA. About 0.670" lift on intake/exhaust. A Vertex magneto lights the sparks. Roller rockers, stud girdles, CrMoly pushrods, etc. complete the show. Exhaust is 2 1/4" hooker headers, 3" exhaust through Spintech proshootout mufflers, exiting with 3" tailpipes out the back to try to keep the thing somewhat quiet. After the motor, a manually-shifted, reverse valve-body T400 shifts the thing (complete with Transbrake), and this is handled through a 4500 stall converter. The rear end is a 9" Ford with 4.56 gears. It's narrowed to fit the big 31.5x18 MT's. Inside is a 10pt cage, 5-point belts, etc. As for times, I haven't had this motor on the strip yet, as it's new (just finished it last summer). I've only got about 40 miles on the new motor (it's a street cruiser). I'm hoping to get it to the strip this spring/summer. The old motor did high-10's with no traction, and this motor makes a lot more HP, so if I can get 'er to hook, it should be good for high 9's with some decent traction. Thanks for looking and asking

If I'm ever over that way I'd like to check her out!Myself, I've never been able to finish any of my projects. :PI had a 70 cuda, then got a 73 Charger.Charger had a real tight 440 and a slapstick 727 tranny.Plan was to swap the 440 into the cuda, but lack of time and money screwed that up.I also have a 71 landcruiser, have owned it for 16 years now. This was my daily driver/weekend booney crasher for years.Stuck it in the garage a few years back, and it aint coming out till I get her done.Got it lifted, did front end shackle swap, and found a350 TBI for it.Now I just have to find the time Later-Ray PS hey Dan, what it means is your head snapping back as you drive a quarter mile in the 9 second range.
