I received a letter in the mail the other day from the Mountain View Police Chief in regards to our Clubs, The Treasure Hunters Society of Santa Clara Valley, attempt in locating several weapons thrown from a suspect's vehicle shortly after several armed robberies and an attempted murder to one of their officers. Even though we didn't find the weapon's they were very appreciative for our efforts. I would like to share the Chief's letter with the forum members. www.kinzlicoils.com/mdpix-uploads/MtViewPoliceChiefpg1.jpgwww.kinzlicoils.com/mdpix-uploads/MtViewPoliceChiefpg2.jpg OT

The office who drove us back from the last trip out said that we were welcome to come to their classes on recovering evidence. Don't know if he mentioned it to you or not. Too bad he couldn't come to our meeting one month and give a small talk on the subject...or, maybe he could. If I remember right, their class on the subject was held on Thursday nights. It's something to think about.

Hello Tonka,
Yes we did discuss it and it's in the works. They have invited us to attend their evidence gathering class and I have offered to have some of our folks give a class to their evidence collecting teams on how to detect for a specific size and metal targets, ie; shell casings from .22 to .45 cal, for knives, hand guns, rifles, and etc. I think that the Club members on the evidence recovery team will learn a lot and I know for sure that the Police Officers will learn how to use their Department metal detector. However, like I told Sgt. Jeff Sato, it takes more than just knowledge on how to operate a metal detector it takes lots of experience. I suggested that their Officers check out their Department detector and do some coin shooting and see how the detector responds to differenct targets. He thought it was a good idea and was going to suggest it. He's hoping that the Department will still rely on the professional's when they can't find what they are looking for at a crime scene.

Thanks Ralph for those kind words and I know that you wanted to help us out on this one too, but something came up and you couldn't. Maybe on the next big call out.

Thanks Ron, It was a big effort and many man hours went into the search and it was to bad that the weapons weren't found. OT
