voice.paly.net/view_story.php?id=495Actually, this is pretty amusing... I swear, I don' think I said some of these things ! Hummerizing America The new Hummer has sparked an uproar of criticisms from environmentalist groups across the nation On a cold, winter morning, Steve Chan and his friends wake up, get in their cars, and head for north of Grass Valley, halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. When they arrive, their obstacles loom before them: mountain logging roads three feet deep in snow, nearly sheer rock faces, and deep, fast moving rivers. Under most circumstances this terrain would be impassible, but Chan is the president of the Bay Area Hummer Association (BAHA), and he and his friends are all driving Hummers, designed to run harder and in more difficult conditions than almost any other vehicle. After they begin their ascent, conditions often are even too difficult for a single Hummer, so the drivers work as a team, using chains attached to their vehicles to pull one Hummer after another up the treacherous slope. Part of the way up the mountain, one Hummer breaks an axle. The caravan stops, and a crowd of experienced off-road drivers nearly fight for the opportunity to replace it. Forty-five minutes later, the repairs complete, they continue their way up the mountain. (see link for more....)
