I am heading up to Alaska this week and will be looking for GOLD ! Just was wondering if anyone had some good suggestion for nugget shooting areas that they had been to or heard of . I was hoping to go to a place called Paradice Valley, But won't have enough time!(Maybe next time) we are flying up to Nome from Anchorage for a couple of days. I will do some Beach hunting up there. I have heard and read stories of the nuggets they find there on the beach. We will be driving and I have plotted all the old mining camps on our trip. Hope to do some coin shooting in these places. I made many trips to Ak., worked on the pipeline, had a house there. I have not heard of Paradise Valley, but the Brooks Range is nice in the summer. Bring mosquiro repellent. Lots of good spots to hunt nuggets around Fairbanks, but all the best spots are already claimed. I liked South East Ak. better than the interior. I found some nice nuggets in the porcupine mineing district near the village of Klukwan, they are in the photo at the end of the story I wrote in the members only section. You need 10 posts to get into the member's only section.

Finderskeeper, Thanks for the info ! I had enough post on the old forum to get into the members only section. I would like to read your story before I leave. I guess I better get on the stick and post more then I have been. Lot of times I just like to lurk around on the forum. Craig

I would investigate Paradise Valley a little more before you spend money going there.........There is gold there but things are not as they have been explained to you... Nuff said. I have lived up here for 34 yrs and have spent all of my off time chasing gold, etc, it is not easy, and to think you live near and can probably drive to the Mother Lode country, one of the largest goldfields in America, in a couple of hours and have a couple of hundred miles to search at will. All of the good gold producing areas are claimed in AK and are being mined and the miners are very possessive. The GPAA has some areas that are marginal you can poke around in, Mills creek is their one good claim, Crow Creek is a good producer but it will cost you 10.00 a day to dig around there but probably far cheaper in the long run then going to Paradise and being skunked... If you have some place to go in Nome other then the GPAA deal I say go for it but you will work there for too for very little gold and beach mining by hand is tough...I have heard that a lot of the country down your way has been rearranged by flooding this past spring and for me that would be the place to go, in fact I might be down that way myself this winter.....Some of the places I could go I can no longer get in there so I have to work at it, might check out some areas that I have not been too but I know someone over there that is mining or I would not go because it is a long drive and I would not like to get over there and find out it was a long trip for nothing... Hope I have been a little helpful ...HH...Geo
