noticed they are running at 14 to 17 khz frequency now. my de leon is at 10. i was wondering if they are truly new or did they just up the freq. for more sensitivity. reason i ask is i rarely look at my meter and was considering buying a tejon or vaquro, if, in fact its a better detector. thanks for any input.

If you want to find a B.B. 15 ft. down...use a LOBO S.T.

I have a Tesoro Lobo SuperTraq, it runs at 17.5...now I know that there is a new Tejon that runs at the same...similar to a lobo...but is more geared towards coins....once you get used to the Lobo ....its a screamer...i swapped to the 9 x 8 coil ...run in all metal mode....once i get a target I switch to discrimination...usually ill check it for nickels first..then turn it up to about 8.5 to 9.0.....it has a learning curve to get used to but its well worth it...this thing goes deeeeeeeeeeeep......good luck...take the chance...get the lobo.....

Detector manufactures need to come out with new products from time to time in order to keep sales up. I suspect that Tesoro changed the operating frequencies on the Bandido Umax 2 and on the Silver and renamed them Vaquero and Cibola so they could call them new products. I twice questioned this on a Tesoro forum, but never got a straight answer.

I have never tried the Deleon, Bandido II, Cibola, or the tejon but I bought my dad a Vaquero and it has been impressive. In the 20 min. I've used it, I have found that it picks up aluminum and gold super deep. I got a couple of deep coins, but I was too busy picking up all the aluminum on the beach. Glad I got the 5.75" coil with it too. Don't know of the performance of the Deleon so I don't know if it would be worth it to fork out the $400 or so for a new detector. But I do believe that tesoro did more than just a frequency change with the Vaq/Cib/Tej, but I don't have the facts. I wish you the best of luck. HH

I agree with Darren about the Lobo. In all-metal mode it is the all around most sensitive machine I have ever used, including the Gold Bug II. The only other Tesoro machine I've used is the Silver Umax, but it can't even come near to Lobo for sensitivity and depth. It can see anything down there, and deeper than I usually care to dig in the hard ground around here.
In not-so-trashy places the Lobo is magnificent. Good discrimination, though I wish it had a "notch" feature. A bit pricey, but Ron Dugger has it for $639. If you can live without the VDI's and other display information (I'm getting REAL spoiled with the MXT), it is a good bet.
Good luck!
Marc
