I want to buy a small coil for my MXT for the trashy areas that abound around Yuma. I've been considering the 5" Excelerator from Kellyco. Does anyone have any experience with this coil, or the small White's coil? I'd like to get the very smallest coil I possibly can find for better target separation, although I know I'll lose some depth at the same time. Any suggestions? Marc

GilaMarc,
I used the MXT with the smaller whites DD coil. Seem to work well. I have never tried the Excelerator. They have a MXT forum at Sunray you might try there, I do not know http, but you should be able to get it off google.
If you get one let me know how it works for you. I do a lot of nugget hunting on my claims in and around Jamestown,. I was thinking of getting the smaller coil for my self, but did not have the spare cash.

I have read and heard mixed reports about the Kellyco Coils. I use the White's DD Coils. I have the 4x6 and the 6x10. I have no complaints with either coil and have used them for 3 years now! I have found a small gold nugget with the 4x6. Gets into tight places. also great in trashy areas. I am taking my DD Coils, along with my MXT to Alaska, next week. Hope to find several nuggets up there ! Craig

Once you use the Double D design of the White's 4x6 Eclipse, you'll never go back to concentric again ;D. Incredible loop for picking thru the trash. HH, MT

I think I have them all! The 5" Excellerator is my current favorite as it does great in trash without giving up as much depth as the 4X6.Whites 5.3 is really a 6.5" coil and is a good general purpose coil unless you are after really deep stuff. It does well in trash also. The 6X10 coil is best for coverage with moderate depth in less extreme junk. The smaller coils can be used with the gain turned way up with no more than light chatter. The 5" Excellerator is choice with the slightly deeper 5.3 (6.5") second.

Since I've never played with the the MXT I cannot comment on the machine.
Having had many of oportunity to play with many loops I'd like to recamend the 4X6 DD loop. You will get more impressive results with it. Plus you can get into tigher areas (small spaces, betweed rocks etc).
Like MT said DD is the way to go!
Good luck and let us know what you end up getting and the results. K?

Thanks, guys! I, too, have heard mixed reports on the Excelerator, but I might wind up going that way. Kellyco has it for $120, and the good things I've heard outweigh the bad, I think. I'm sure there those who don't like the MXT in general.....or (blasphemy!!) even the Explorer II! Anyway, thanks again!! Marc

I've heard not so good things about the Excelerator coils - from what I've seen the quality control is poor and if you get one that works the first time, that's great. Of course, I would do just about anything I could to buy from someone else besides KellyCo.
The Whites coils always work well and are much higher quality, IMHO. Your local dealer will most likely give you a great deal and let you try them before you buy as well.
I'd go with the Whites 4x6DD or 6x9DD, or both.

Thanks, Jeff. That's good to know.
I agree with Kellyco in general. I still can't get over the thing about their "Long Range Locators". They're inherently a bit unethical, in my opinion.
Blue, I think you are right about the 4x6 DD. Costs a little more, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Hey Marc,
I have an MXT and I would recommend either the 5.3" concentric, or the 4x6 DD for trashy areas. They both do a good job. I sold my 5.3" because I didn't need both!
