Found this deep the other day. Looked like a lead seal but I checked it latter and saw a hint of gold. What ever it was must have looked pretty cool. It's about the size of a dime and heavy. Thought I would try and post a pic and see if anyone could guess. There are 2 small white stones on the front. Mike

Wow Mike, Thats the way to stump the experts! Maybe some sort of button? Is it hollow? Could it have been part of a larger piece of jewelry, maybe multi part broach or piece of a bracelet? Tie tack? Gary

Go over it a few times with a brass brush..it'll make the features stand out.
Some of the brass from the brush will transfer to the object...making it look gold. You can get it off later and it will appear as it does now.
It might help you I.D. the thing. I've got piles of stuff like that...frustrating. Sometimes you never know exactly what the heck it is.
Looks like an artifact from Pompei.

is it all metal? sure looks like a chain stuck in some type of melted metal.
These finds are always fun trying to find out what it is or what it was.
Good luck Sal

Well the thing was found at big rec. I pulled out a 1919S wheatie and the was another signal down a few inches more. I dug and pulled out this out. It was brown/grey looking. It really looked like a seal so I figured I would check it out at home.
On the explorer it metered top line a little left of a silver dime.
Gary, This thing is heavy for it's size and solid. Lead weight kinda.
925bill, I cleaned it up with a tooth brush just enough to see some detail.
I was thinking I might disect it one day but for now it goes in the odd ball jar.

Looks like a gold chain fused to gether in a lump. We sometimes find Celtic and Roman coins like that. Interesting find all the same. ;D

Perhaps was melted during the SF '06 fire that some kid found on the street and put in his pocket as a neat piece of junk before losing it at Big Rec. A bathtub stopper chain along with some iron pipe material and some lead from the pipe joint (when lead and oakum were used to join iron pipes).

I wish I really knew what it was, but this one escapes me. It's neat. Big Rec gives up about anything one can imagine. 30 days I've stopped smoking, I'm just a BIT cranky ;D SEE YA AT THE PARK! HH, MT
