I was going to post this yesterday but ... I got out to an area in Alameda that was part of the old Beltline Railroad System. Its been calling to me for a long time and I really was'nt sure if there would be anything but scrap metal,(yeah, tons of that). So i walked out to this area that about 15 acres or so and found a spot near an old concrete pad that used to have a building and started on a spot where the weeds were'nt too thick and there was more sand then railbed gravel. Got a crusty memorial, 68, right away. Then low and behold a wheat, another wheat, and again...and some silver! Ended up with 6 wheats, mostly 40s, couple soaking, can't se the date, a 46 Roosie and eyeballed a 58 wheat right on top of the ground What a nice surprise to get noly one memorial and no zincs, not even one pulltab! Well, since I hit about 1% of this area guess I'll have to round up MikeS and Alameda Gayle for a fulll scale assault before this area ends up as condos or a strip mall and its all under asphalt. HH Gary

Wow, Gary, what a relief it must be to find a place that isn't infested with zincs and pulltabs. Congrats on some great finds!! We'll look forward to hearing about what else you pull out of that spot. Sounds great!

Dan

Well done Gary! Sometimes there are spots we know we should hit, but just don't get around to it. Glad you made the effort and were rewarded for your work. JimClick

MT, So those pieces of a Hubley Texan Jr. cap pistol that I kept finding were yours, eh pardner? You sure were hard on your toys! Or did the neoghborhood bully take your cap gun and put it on the train tracks for the train to run over? ;D Thank you for your support! Gary

Geez, Gary I was on the oposite end of the place and didn't find a single thing. Guess I gotta walk in a lot farther. Sounds like you had fun. that ground is like asphalt. Maybe there is hope for that place. You didn't clean it out yet did you? AG

Nice going Gary! That site will need more attention. I know MT lost a gold coin or 2.
I still haven't recovered from that high school spot. Whoa! that was trash. City Hall is next on my list the grass there is too nice and they are raising my taxes again.

Gayle, My secret method was to keep walking past the ground that was like asphalt and i stopped when I found a place that was very sandy and easy digging, cause I'm lazy. I triesd the other side once a couple years ago with the Bounty Hunter. Kept getting good signals that were coal clinkers or bits of slag and it took ten minutes and lots of bloody knuckles to dig the 3 inches through the gravelly rock hard dirt. Mike, Gayle and I will leave city hall to you. After your wife gets tired of bailing you out at the APD next door Gayle and I will come get you at least once each. But, when your done with City Halls lawn you can work on the plantings at the Police Dept. That will make a great cautionary tale for the forum! Gary
