When did the US treasury change coins from all silver to alloys or layered metals? Is it different for 50 cent pieces than quarters, nickels, dollers? thanks.

They stopped putting silver in halfs in 1971. SOME Ike Dollars had Silver in em until 1976 incl. Dimes and Quarters have 90% silver in em until 1964 incl. Nickels have silver in em from 1942-1945 due to Nickel being needed for the war effort. So if someone refers to 'War Nickels' they usually mean the silver ones. HH and good luck finding those silver suckers. Martin
