Hi, Kinzli turned me on to this site from another forum. In NC, not in CA, but from reading looks like I can post here. Bought a Nautilus LF (?) at a yard sale yesterday. Would like some pointers on how to use - Audio Set, Ground Set, Junk Set, Junk Rejection, Zero Ground controls. Assume I know nothing . Any usage help appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the welcome, Tom. I have nothing in particular that I will use it for, bought it on a whim, "looked" like a decent unit. If I can just figure out how to use the controls, I may get somewhere. I understand from reading yesterday that the Nautilus is a good "relic" unit.

That is what I have heard too, hope to see some of your find's after you figure it out.Should be able to find some good civil war relic's.I would go down to the library in your area and see if you can find any info on the surrounding area's.Look for any info on camp's Union and Confederate and see if you can locate them.If any are on private property get permission first.Make sure you fill aall your hole's in and take out any trash you find.Good luck and hope to see some find's from you soon.HH,Tom

Thanks for the advice Tom, will do.
Spent a little time in the workshop with it this afternoon. Cleaned it up a little and then experimented with adjusting the knobs while holding a metal object a few inches from the coil. Marked the knob settings at the points where detection seemed best on the workbench. Then took it outside a little, found a couple of trash items. Will experiment more as time permits and will continue to look for info on the logic behind using the knobs.
Thanks again, Tom, I've posted on four boards since yesterday morning and yours is the only reply I've had.

Thanks for the welcome, Lon. Yes, the Nautilus forum you pointed to is the first place I posted. Thanks Tom, will try the coin. Figured you guys would prefer a newbie posting here, didn't wanna get outta line right out of the gate . I'm getting better at it, just got in, the ground is wet from the rain today, and I got several more hits. Found an old window lock. Beginning to get the feel of it. Does it make sense that the results would be better because of the wet ground? Sounds logical. Joe

Thanks, Tom, see you on the other side.
Just got off the phone with Tyndall, got a manual on the way, that should help.

The manual will help, but ask question's on here.Because there will be somebody who will give you some more advanced setting's.The manual usually just give's you the basic's and the rest is up to you to figure out,so definatly ask more question's about it.HH,Tom

Hey Joe, you might also ask the more detailed questions on the "Main" forum, there's a couple guys over there that know the Nautilus, but they might get into this forum very often...
