Here's one i thought of to help beginners like myself On the tongue of my shoes (metal-less shoes ;D ) there is a loop for threading your laces through... well i put a copper penny in one, and a nickel in the other so that when i am out in the field and i get a signal, i can bounce it off my shoe and compare the two! this helped me today and it may help someone else to learn the sov tones better... the coin ones anyways.

Good tip Mike, it should help a lot of Sov owners.

Great Tip! I swing my 14k wedding ring over my coil and it comes in at 510 on the 550 meter. Pull tabs usually sound lower, good stuff usually higher. Another tip for Elite users: The start up tone ( the one that sounds just after power up) is 385, when my meter is calibrated on a quarter to 550. When I don't have a quarter, I adjust for 385 on the start up tone. Works every time for me. fod:-)

I have been trying to figure out if i can tell the difference between deep coin sized objects, and shallow small objects. sometimes they have the same volume level in all metals, but the deeper coins seem to have a wider signal. the shallow smalls will have a shorter blip as opposed to the deeper blaw. can anyone verify this? I have tried it a few times. The other day i found a signal that in all metals, had a blaw one way and coming back there was only a slight threshold change, well it turned out to be a wheatie practically on edge about 5-6 inches down. I have a feeling that everytime i go out with the sovereign i am going to learn some new quirk about it.

This probably won't answer your question, but I just switched from an 8" Coinsearch to a 10" Tornado coil, and I can tell you that the 10" definately spreads the target out over a larger area, and previous "blips" now sound like "blaws". The depth appears to be about the same on both, but the Coinsearch pin-points better, and the 10" finds targets over a wider area. I like them both for beach hunting in the dry sand. I have noticed in Disc mode, on questionable targets, that it pays to approach them from atleast two different directions to get a feel for the orientation. The pitch and timbre of the target tone can change significantly. Hope this helps. fod:-)
