My wife gave me the ok to buy a new metal detector. I am tired of digging zinc pennies need help. Looking for advice on detector with a good meter to pic targets.

the best ID 'tecters are the Whites DFX and the Minelab Explorer. The latter gets my vote.

I would go with the Explorer,if you go to the treasuredepot.com and click on classified's you should be able to find one under a $1000 and maybe some extra's with it.HH,Tom

I have a one month old MXT with soft carry bag, 9 inch big foot, 6x9 eliptical coil, 9.5 inch coil, whites locating detector, digging tool.

Explorers (versus Explorer II's) are cheap - you can pick them up for $500 or so now. Since there's really no difference between the two, I'd get a regular Explorer and use the extra cash to build a coil selection. An Explorer with an 8", 10" and 15" coil makes quite a formidable machine. If you're in real trashy areas, a 5" coil could be added too.
Of course, there's other machines that are worth looking at: Whites DFX (Going rate: $700-800 depending on condition) Whites MXT (Going rate: $500-600 depending on condition)
Check out our classified forum, there's a few decent machines in there now.
