Hi All, Looks like I will have to invest in better digging tools. I broke another garden shovel today. Detector seems to be working fine though, just can't get into the hard ground without better tools. Had a good hit today at about 8" inches, but broke my only adn last tool. will have to go back tommorow.

Go to a home depot and look in their gardening section, i got a super thick trowel for like 6 bucks, it'll never break, near the handle it is about 3/8" thick metal! Or hop on the bandwagon and get a Lesche (sp?), but i use a knife and a trowel. cheap kitchen knives work good too.

Thanks. I was headed there tommorow. I am an electrical contractor, and it just dawned on me today that I am always around properties that are being torn up. What a great hobby to have coincidently. In fact, I brokethat last shovel at the job site after work.

Hello dboy,
The Lesche/Predator digging tool is a little pricey, but its very much worth it. It has a sheath, will not break and is made to cut ground easier than any garden trowel.
They run $ 35 shipped or search for predator digging tool on ebay and bid for one.

Dboy,
Also check out Rick's shovel that he manufactures. You'll see it in the for sale section. I recently got both this and the plugger he makes--both are excellent.

Dan

dboy, have you ever used a trenching shovel? The plumbers sometimes call them sharpshooters. They look like a short D- handled shovel with a long narrow blade and dig into hard ground easier than a regular shovel . I've never heard of one being broken unless it was run over by a truck. We have hard ground, like sun baked adobe, so keep an eye on the trades that dig trenches and holes.
