Hello,
I just just joined this forum. I have a Whites Coinmaster Di Pro which I purchased in the mid 80's. It was only used a half a dozen times, basically brand new. After all these years I've decided to get into coinshooting again. My question. Has technology far surpassed the detector I have? Should I purchase a new one? I have searched different metal detector sites, and I'm totally confused! Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Welcome to the forum Laff!I would have to say it has changed some, but some people still use the older machine's and do quite well. The newest one's out are whites DFX and MXT both are quite good. Then there's the explorerII which has great depth and target ID,but is a little heavy due to the coil.I'm not an expert on these but I know some of the more experienced people will help out.
Where do you live, that way maybe you can find somebody in your area to hook up with and see what they have too,to get an idea of some of the newer machine's.HH,Tom

Thanks for the reply. I live out in the Livermore area. I've been online all day researching different detectors. White's, Fisher, Troy, etc. They all seem to be really nice, and have a lot of features. There is a White's dealer in Livermore, but he never seems to be open. Anyway, I'm more confused than ever, but the research is fun. And I've gotten the bug again.......

The guy in Livermore is closed sunday and monday's.If you go on the main forum and ask some question's you will get some more answer's on some of the machine's from the more experienced hunter's,also if your going to buy a new machine go to "thetreasuredepot.com" and look in the classified's or dealer classified's.You can find a good deal on a used machine.HH,Tom

and welcome aboard Laff! Sounds like you did the same thing I did. I have an old Coinmaster somewhere in storage. I bought mine back in the late 70's or early 80's but never really got into the hobby. I got interested again in 1999 and I haven't looked back. I did buy a new detector when I started again. You won't believe the improvements. The best thing for you to do is join a club in you're area. Good luck and just get out and have fun.

Hi Leff & welcome aboard. I'll give you my little trick that impresses nobody but me.
I throw all my change in a coffee can, even the change I have in my pocket at the end of the day, in several month's you'll have enough to go with your detector & get a new one, beside's, you'll know more about what you want by then. The Whites you have will find you lost of stuff, the new ones arn't all that much better in my book.
Good luck & yes as suggested, find your local club & local hunter's, it's a big plus to hunt with someone. HH.........j im
