Hi there everyone! I've been a lurker here for a while now and now that I finally own a metal detector I thought I would come out of the shadows and say hello! My husband and I live in the Antelope Valley and we recently purchased a Tesoro Tejon. So far we are having a blast with it! However, I know that we aren't using it to it's full extent because we are so new at this that we really suck at getting it tuned right. We have so far found a whopping 2 dollars in change and the other day we dug a dental tool out of a playground haha. I'm sure it's operator error, but we can't get the Tejon to a point where it's not constantly beeping. I don't know if it's normal or not, but it's kind of frustrating to dig and dig, and find nothing. I'm assuming we have some setting off though. I guess it's going to take me some time to understand what the sound of each beep means, but when we take it to the park it goes nuts! If I dug every beep, the whole park would be a huge hole haha. If anyone here has a Tejon and could offer any tips I would greatly appreciate it Thank you all for the great reading. I look forward to someday having a find I can share here as well!

Hello DC; my name is Joe and I am from Florida. I've been detecting since 1988 but took a loooong break until getting back into it in January this year. My wife and kids love going out to the schoolyards and so far we have found about 60 dollars in clad coin, one nice Nike watch and a gold religious medallion which I am trying to reunite with its owner. This is a great hobby and one of the only ones that pays for itself. The first few times you hunt, you will dig all sorts of stuff- some trash and some treasure. Keep at it and you will get better and better. If you stick to sand playgrounds, it is easier to recover coins than trying to dig them out of the grass- a skill I have not mastered. Almost every morning b/f work, I take 45 mins and hit a spot. It doesn't matter if I find a quarter and two pop tops, the exercise is good for me and detecting is very relaxing to boot. I wish you good luck and happy hunting.

Hello Desertchick, There's a treasure hunting club in your neck of the woods. It's called the AV Treasure Hunting Society (check out there web-site)! ;D It's a great place to learn & experience MDing. Not to mention all the great people too! I'm sure they'll give some hands-on pointers. Ask for Rick & Vicky. They're the MD experts in the area. They've got great outings to attend. Had fun at the last one. Give a call & sit in one of their club monthly meetings. You'll have fun! If you're into gold prospecting, they have a couple of claims in the Randsburg area! HH- Max

Welcome to the forum Desertchick.Play around with the discrimination and the sensitivity that could help.Disc will start to eliminate some of the trash target's for you,but you wil lose some depth and smaller gold item's too.Sens will bring out deeper target's and also make other target's sound off real good that are close to the surface. The only bad thing is it will make some bottle cap's sound like coin's.Try some air test on some target's you would like to find and see how they sound. As BigMax said go check out the club in your area, you will get some good advice and some hunting buddy's too.HH,Tom
