StocktonBob gave me a tip on trying something new for cleaning silver coins. Disclaimer: DO NOT USE THIS ON VALUABLE COINS. NEVER CLEAN VALUABLE COINS!! Anyhow it's denture cleaner. I figured if that stuff gets nasty plaque of dentures and is harmless enough to be used on something you are supposed to put in your mouth it might work well on silver coins. I got the cheapest ones. 96 tablets for 5 bucks or so and here is how I used it. Use a small cup or bowl of hot water. Put in a few silver coins. Maybe only one at a time, if you feel like it. Then drop in 1 or 2 tablets and let the bubbling start. After about 15 minutes it's all done. Take the coin out and get some Baking Soda. Rub the coin between your fingers keep it wet and use plenty of baking soda. Might wanna use household gloves. Depending on how deep the crud is, it get's so shiny it looks almost as new. The After pics below actually look much worse than the coins actually look. The Barber and Merc. are real nice. Only the back of the Washington was giving me a hard time and I gave up. But with some more elbow grease you probably would be able to get it real shiny. The Merc and the Washington are both from a local park where all silver looks extremely bad. It's almost black when they come out the ground. I think it's heavy use of fertilizer which does it to the coins. HH and happy cleaning. Martin
