Thinking about heading to Huntington Bch on 8/2. The surfing championship will be over and the expected crowd of 300,000 will be gone but will have left some goodies to be found. Anybody interested will be around the pier area @ 6AM. HH Vern2sjc

Big delimma for me...the gold prospecting club has a outing in the East Fork this weekend. I already told them I will be there Saturday! (I'm a board member of the club) This will give me time for the Sunday AM beach hunt. Problem is...I either got to bribe my wife for the two days (I usually get one) of bliss or choose my one (?) fun day off!? Hurts just thinkin' on what bribes to use! HH- Max ;D

Would anyone mind if I tagged along? I would love to try my hand at the beach, and hopefully learn something from those of you who have done it for a while. If you don't mind me tagging along and trying to learn something, that would be great. What are the easiest directions to get to the pier from Torrance? Thanks Scott

Hi budz, you're welcome to come along. The more, the merrier! I'm not too good with directions, but I've found www.mapquest.com to be great for that stuff. Just click on driving directions, put in your starting point and destination, and click ok. You can use intersections as your start or endpoints. Just put in Main St. and Pacific Coast Highway as your destination. And then there's parking, but it shouldn't be too bad at 6am...

Welcome aboard Budzbox. Hope you can make it to HB on Monday. On driving directions take the 405 south to Beach Bl. then go south, after a while, watch for Beach Bl to split stay to the Right for Main ST, take it all the way til you come to PCH. Hope this helps. See you there Vern2sjc

Well, I made it, although I was late and it looked as though everyone detecting was rather busy, so I didn't bother (or meet) anyone there. But, I did manage to earn back the parking fee ($4.50) and some change in coins and a nice waded up $5 on the surface for my trouble, so I guess that equals my gas to get there. But, I did have a decent time, even though I got nothing spectatular, as usual.
Anyone else have any luck?
Scott

Nice going Scott; you did better than me. I ended up with about $4 in clad and the usual other stuff.
Sorry we never officially met. Their were so many people detecting there that I didn't know which one was you. I didn't want to bug everyone on the beach going around asking, "Are you Scott?" 20 times. LOL. Anyways, we'll have to meet up again on a less busy beach.
HH, Jeff

It was pretty busy there with all of the detectors. I saw a few people out there digging giant holes looking for targets without refilling them , but they never seemed to get anything out of any of them. Oh well, Maybe we can try something later at another beach. I live in Torrance right now so I am kind of close to a lot of beaches here in the south. Talk to (and maybe meet you) later! Scott
