I've had my XLT for about 2.5 years now and this and geocaching are the best hobbies I've ever had I think. My two best finds are a 1943 Australian Penny found in a school yard @ 1.5 inches (a show and tell gone very bad?) and a 14 carat gold ring with a LARGE jade stone found in the South City Park here in Redding @ 5 inches depth. But NO silver and only one wheatie. I know I need help in programing my XLT. I just turn it on and go. I know the Trinity County area quite well since I lived there for 28 years and would love to detect the old Brown Bear Mine area but that's not a place for one person to go alone (at least not at my ancient age of 57). Thanks in advance for any answers or comments.

Now be carefull Redding that's my age too! But I know what you mean. I've always have been the healthy one and in the last year and half I have been hit with all kinds of pain, achilles heel on both feet at separate times, right leg patella femeral pain, now lower back pain that radiates down the right leg into the groin area, and then flares out in a burning sensation of the right calf muscle. If I ever get up that way I'll have to give you a call. OT

Hi Redding and welcome to the forum. I am down in Santa Cruz but if I am ever going to the Trinities I will get ahold of you. Lot of gold up that way! The basic programs in the XLT don't get a lot of depth. You can start in any of the preset programs and bump up the AC (in basic adjustments) and the preamp gain (in pro options). These control the power going into and out of the ground. Also you might get ahold of the XLT video. Good luck and HH Dan3
