Hi everyone! Im new in the Forum and in Metal Detecting too! I just got a new Metal Machine that my husband just got me last week. (Yes I'm happpily married, and getting a metal detector as one of my husbands gifts, is more reason to say how happily married I am!!!) I don't know how good this machine is. My husband made some reasearch in the Internet for a good couple weeks. We decide to go for an Intermediate Model, before we go into something more "Top the Line" or so. Reasons? I have always been interested in Metal Detecting since I was a little girl, while I was living in my country, but never did anything to "convince" my dad to get me one! Now I finally got one, but one thing is being interested in something and the other thing is to be in the "middle of it" I read that Metal Detecting can take looots of patience and perseverance, and loooots of digging too! I started using my machine this past weekend at my Parents in law property in Roseville. I knew there was nothing in there, (there's only fields around) but at least I wanted to get familiar with all the different sounds (when findding junk is concern) I was there for a good six hours, of course didn't find anything, but the excersice was good and it was nice to be in the outdoors.
I have two questions, and will appreciate each and every response. I know lot of the members here are Metal detecting experts: Which brand is the best out there? We would like to know if when it comes to get an Intermediate Model which brand is the "most recomended" We decide to go for the Garret GTX 750... and that is what I have...What do you guys think? Question#2: I live in the San Jose-Santa Clara area and I would like to meet ladies that are interested in Metal Detecting. I have been "investigating" this Forum for some days now, and I don't see any. It was Funny one of the members gave the Welcome to a lady name Carolyn, and for the responses he got "seem to be there is no Carolyn" What happen? Is Metal Detecting, something that appeals more to gentleman than to ladies? What about the guys here that are married? Does their wifes like Metal Detecting... or they just like the Malls? As a woman I love Malls!!!...with no reasonable doubt!!! But I think Metal Detecting is something I'm reallly going to enjoy too!
I think I wrote a lot for for first time. Thanks for reading this! Wish you have good hunting experinces in the comming days! Kindest Regards to everyone!

Vivian..........
I love your accent, where are you from?
Viv, I've been asking the same question, WHERE ARE ALL THE LADIES.
When OT, (one of the forum's more refined members) sees your post, I'm sure he will respond with more information than you need. If he doesn't have the answers, he will tell you where to find them.
6 hours, and you found NOTHING? Did you put batteries in your Garret GTX 750? (a fine machine by the way)
Welcome Vivian, I hope you join the forum.
Psssst, Viv, when you find out where the girls are, let me know, Okay? Blind, crippled, or crazy, its OK, I'm not particular. (dont let Paul know I hear he's looking too)
Hope to see you posting your cool finds, in the near future.

Hello Ralph and Linda! To Linda: I already called you, and let me tell you I really enjoy talking to you! I'm realy looking forward to meet you soon.
To Ralph: Thank you for your kind response! Yes. I put batteries on my Metal Detector! I got lot of signals, but only dig threee or four times! I found lot of junk arround the area! What happen is that lot of Farmers around there dump lot of trash, lot of metal things. My detector was going nuts! I got all kind of signals that seem to be just junk, then all sudden will go to the gold sign. ..who knows there was a gold piece next to a junk piece! I was only trying to get familiar with my detector, since it was the first time, it would of been a sort of good , super good luck if I was able to find something the very first day. I was really excited anyway, and the idea of finding at least a little something on my very first day made it more exciting...well at least I tried, but the experience was good anyways, eventhough my arms are stiil sore! I'm a 5'1 person ,with 95 pounds! so my metal detector was kind of a little heavy!
By the way, I'm from Peru. That is to answer your question.
Linda and I spoke a little today, about ladies not participating in this Forum. I agree that may be ladies read it but don't post messages! To be honest, I kind of doubted in posting a message, because I though this was more a "gentlemens Forum" I told my husband some days ago, that it seems that I'm only one of the few ladies in this world who likes Metal Detecting! My girlfriends who I keep intouch all the time with, but live in other States are not interested in Metal Detecting at all, but they kindly say that they will go with me one day when they come to see me or I go to visit them!
Okay, answering your request, I will let you know if I ever meet a single lady for you! Now that I know that you are not picky, it would be more easy to find you one! Guess what? Thanks, for telling me that this Garret that my husband got for me is a good machine! It was like as when I read that a little voice of "peace sound" touched my ears! Something like "I can rest in peace feeling" What happens is that there is so many machines out there, that you don't know what to choose!! By the way, my husband also got me that little Garret Pinpointer, and seems to be one day I can be an expert, and who knows will be able to find something nice! Certainly, if that happens I will be proud to show a good find here! Again, thanks for writting back! Take care, Vivian.

Vivian.........
Peru, you say. My, you hail from a country with a very colorful past, with much of it to be found with metal detectors.
Do you ever go home to Peru? If so, the next time you go, be sure to take your metal detector.
I see you had a conversation with one of our local gals, that's great. I know she will introduce you to others.
While metal detecting is male dominated, its certainly not exclusive to the, potbelly butt scratches. Women have there place amongst the elite. (I know, I was married to one)
Good luck Vivian, were all looking forward to your posts, and pictures of your great finds, which are sure to come.

I've mentioned a couple times that I feel like I'm almost the only female to post on this forum. Dean and Tanya post but I'm never sure if it's him or her doing the posting. When you first log onto the forum, at the bottom of the page it lists who the latest member is. I'm sure that Ralph noticed that Carolyn was the last member to sign up and decided to welcome her even though she didn't actually post anything at that time. I'm in Milpitas and my husband and I both MD. We belong to the Santa Clara Club and it meets tomorrow evening. The club website is listed under "links" on this forum and tells where and when. Check it out and hope to see you there. ;D Happy Hunting! And welcome aboard.....

Hello again Ralph! Yes, you are right. Peru is a great place for Metal hunting. Great history and lots of treasures to be :)discovered: gold, silver, relics, you named! I haven't go back to my country yet, but certainly I will take my metal detector with me! I spoke with my dad and sister couple weeks ago, and we were planning on what places we will go when I go back there!
I'm very excited and happy that I found this Forum! I also noticed that Tonka who just wrote me, is a lady...I was wrong in my theory that no ladies like Metal detecting...I'm glad I was wrong!!! Thanks again for your kind words, and good wishes!!

Hello Tonka: Thanks to you too for answering! Yes. I finally noticed that Carolyn exist and is a lady too! What happen is that I only read the first page of the post, then I realized there was a second page! I noticed now that Carolyn has a Web site, very interesting by the way! So you live in Milpitas? I live in Santa Clara, so lets say that we are neighboors!
How long ago do you Metal Hunt? I'm basically new to this State! My husband, my little Maltese dog and me, just moved from Missouri a few months ago. I just found that there are a lot of interesting sites very, very close by to were we use to live, but guess what? I didn't own a metal detector at that time...oh well !! I will go to the Club meeting tomorrow, thanks for the invitation! Linda told me she will be there too, do you know her? I'm very much looking forward to meet you both! So your husband like Metal Detecting too? That is great! It is not that my husband doesn't like Metal Detecting, but he said that its only going to be my hobbie. I told him : "okey at least you can hepl me with the digging" he, he. Thank for the friendly welcome, See you tomorrow!!! Kindest regards, Vivian.

Welcome Vivian. Lots of good folks here, and also in the SCV treasure hunters club. It's been a long time since I've been to one of their meetings but I'm chomping the bit to get to one. Every time one comes up I'm stuck with other things and can't get away to make it Happy hunting, feel free to ask questions about detecting, etc. - there's a lot of great folks that would be happy to help!

Hello Jeff! Thanks to you too for the friendly Welcome and for your words. I'm happy to meet nice people here! Yes I can see that there is a lot of good people here and that this one is a fun Forum!
Questions? Yes...well I think that in the near future I will have some! Perhaps one of my concerns is to know "how safe" this hobbie is. Maybe I would like to hear some experiences from members here! For example: There is an old Barn kind of close to my parents in law property in Roseville. It looks abandoned. We went there last weekend with the metal detector, but I was 'kind of chicken" to go inside. My mother in law assured me nobody has been there in a long time. She was more determined to go inside the Barn an "explore" but as I said before. I was a real chicken, went inside for a couple minutes, and then decide to keep my "whole self" outside. I was afraid that there could be a weird guy hanging there or something!
So you live in Santa Cruz? That is a very nice place! I love the Ocean, you are lucky to live there!
Thanks again for the Welcome. All the people here, made fell special, with such lot of friendlyness and kindest!

Hi Vivian, Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of metal detecting. I wanted to make a comment on why there may be so few women metal detecting:
My wife is from Brazil (we are having our first baby anyday now). The first time we went to Brazil, I kept insisting my wife go fishing, and she told me she didn't like to fish. So finally she agrees to go fishing and she caught tons of fish. I didn't catch any. Then she says to me, "just because I don't like to fish doesn't mean I don't know how."
Well I know it will be the same with metal detecting. When she tells me that she doesn't want to, I don't push the issue, because then I know she will be much better at it than I am. I think a lot of men wouldn't want their pride hurt by finding less than their wives (which we all know we would.)
Here's the rule on safety: Unless you are in a large group, don't go into the barn. If you ever feel uncomfortable at all, just don't do it. There are plenty of public places to metal detect. Metal Detecting is about having fun, and if you are scared, then you are not having fun. Whenever possible, detect with a buddy, your husband, mother-in-law etc. That's my opinion anyway,
Welcome again, JimClick

Hello Vivian and welcome to the Kinzli forum.
Yes, we not only have female metal detectorist but we have some GREAT female detectorist that post here on the forum and are Club members of the Treasure Hunters Society of Santa Clara Valley. I read your post about coming to the meeting and I hope that you and your husband will be able to make it to tonights meeting. We have about 75-90 members that show up for the Club meetings and half of those are female detectorist. So, it might appear that most of the detecting world is primarily men but I think that you will see that their are women that like the hobby of detecting and are very good at it too! Jim Click had some great advice for men or women about detecting alone. It's best in todays world to never go out by yourself, there are a lot of men or women that would go out with you and teach the proper way of using your machine and target retrieval, plus giving you added security so that you can enjoy your new found hobby. I hope to meet with you and your husband tonight and about 1/4 of the the frequent posters on this forum will be there too.

Hi Jim!
First, congratulations for the baby that is comming!!!
It was nice to hear that your wife is from Brazil! I have a especial place in my heart for Brazil and the brazilian people. I went there some years ago and had a wonderful time there! I felt in love with the beaches, the scenery, the people. I had soo much of a good time that originaly I was going only for a couple weeks and I kept telling myself:"okey one more week" ..."other week more" so I ended up staying a whole month and a half, and I didn't stayed more because my dad told me over the phone: I think is time for you to come back home!
Thanks for tha advice. You are right in all what you said. Maybe some other time I will go to the barn with more people, becuse it was like if I didn't want to be there, and I wanted to be there, normal human curiosity, and the excitement of : what if really there is something here??? I just found out that is posible that we will be moving close to the Sacramento area, which means that if that happens I will have the oportunity to spend more time at my parents in law home and perhaps I can convince the guys to go with me. There is three guys in the family and maybe I can convince them to go if I offer them to give them half of the pot of gold that I'm going to find there, he he.
Your advice and time was really apreciatted!! Cordially, Vivian
