I put in for the treasure depot North South hunt and got picked. I don't know much about it but apparently you go to a secret spot and hunt for civil war relics legally. Does anyone know how it works, what you find, and any other information? I'm psyched....HH, Joe
P.S. I have plenty of time to wait- it's 10 months away.

Congratulations! ;D You will no doubt have a great time at the North South hunt! I have attended two of the Grand National Relic Shoots that are also put on by the Treasure Depot. Both of those hunts were in Virginia, so I would imagine that the NS hunt for 2006 will also be there. I have a pretty good idea where the site is; but don't want to spoil it by letting out that information. Well here's how it all works: The organizers of the hunt obtain a lease on a site that had seen a lot of Civil War activity. These sites are usually anywhere from several hundred acres on up, (the last hunt was on a site of over 3,000 acres). Those that are lucky enough to make the drawing, (like you ), pay the entry fee, and are then eligible to attend the hunt. There will be 200+ relic hunters attending there, so you will get to meet some great guys, (and gals), from all across the country. The hunt is for two days, plus an extra free day. This is serious relic hunting, the areas are all woods, hills, fields, etc.. No parks, or manicured lawns here! You may find some nice open woods, or you could also be doing some serious brush whacking! You get to hunt all day with whatever detector you like, dig with whatever tools you want, and keep everything you find. ;D The last GNRS & NS hunts were held at a very historic site that had a huge fort overlooking the river. This fort had been used from Colonial times on through the Civil War. I found some great stuff there including a complete 3" Parrott artillery shell, along with numerous Civil War bullets, buttons, and other finds. Near the fort, I also found several early house sites that produced old coins, and relics. I found a Spanish silver real "cob" from the 1600's, a 1800 U.S. large cent, and a perfect 1838 O seated half dime. Here is my half dime, before cleaning, that was found at GNRS last year. Here's a happy fellow, (me), holding a freshly dug 3" (10lb) Parrott shell, along with a nose fragment from a 100lb Parrott shell. No doubt the time for that hunt seems a long way off, but those months will fly past sooner than you think! Well, here's wishing you a successful hunt, and some great finds! CC Hunter

Congratulations Joe! I just know you'll have a great time. Psst, here is a tip. You'll have to trade your sand scoop for a relic shovel.

Hey Fishnchips, Here's some more GNRS finds for an appetizer! Below are two Civil War New York officers buttons from GNRS 2003 in Virginia. One even has the threads still attached along with a piece of dark blue wool uniform! Sorry for the picture size. I wasn't able to figure out how to reduce them here. CC Hunter
