Hi Fred, It is in the South Eastern Corner of the park, but I don't know the names of the streets its on right off. It is a big field with 2 baseball diamonds. I am sure some here can be more specific. JimClick

Yeah, I would like to find some old places to hunt like that. I find clad galore but have a hard time with the oldies. I have been seeing nothing but very old stuff coming from Big Rec. Where is Big Rec? Is it in SoCal? I promise not to spread a word and turn it into a tourist attraction.

Hey Prop, its a part of Golden Gate Park in San Fransisco. There really old ballfields that were used in the 1800s. Its really cool, but a hard place to hunt cuz theres lots of deep iron in it that seems to ring high a lot, but these guys still seem to pull out the goodies (especially that seated Mike, nice job)!

MLK is the main road. Around 7th.
It's pretty hard to get on this time of year since the baseball, soccer and frisbee are going on until dark. Best when raining.
Lot's of iron so patience is the key.

Fred,
Check any map of San Francisco, Big Rec is usually marked as such. If you go the the San Francisco Main Library Web site or the SF Recreation and Parks Web site they have online photos from the late 1800s and early 1900 showing baseball crowds at Big Rec, ahh the stuff dreams are made of...
If not Big Rec, there a few thousand other acres of Golden Gate park that also saw lots of traffic, picnicking, and other outdoor pursuits since the 1870s.
Good Luck, Gary

It's outside If you look at an SF map, and your looking at Lincoln street x of 7th street (theres a gas station there) and look towards the park and it will put you right there. That's the easiest way to describe it. Blue
