this is probably OT for this thread, but hello all. I posted a greeting in the other forum where it probably belongs, so I'll ask my question here. I have a Whites Spectrum XLT, but I'm stationed in Japan (USAF) and their coins are different than ours in composition. Anyone here shoot in Japan with success, and if so, do you remember your settings? ;D

Ohio guzaimasu Hambone, ;D
Tom is giving you good advice. Get a collection of different ¥ coins and set them on the ground. Sweep over them and see what VDI number they come in on. That should tell you.

i was stationed at camp hansen for 2 years. i never used my detector there, but i used to see a guy with one at the USO every weekend. i've heard the resort beaches are very productive.
i bet there's some good stuff out in jungles.
can you take a pic of some of the banana spiders for me? no one ever believes me when i describe how big they were.

Hambone, Where are you stationed? I have been to Japan many times but never with my XLT. Japan is a land of coin throwers. I don't know about now, but up till a few years ago gold was a craze. People even ate it (gold leaf decorations on crackers). The economy is still not doing so good but people still loose things.
I would use your std. jewelry/coin program but turn on TONE ID & VCO. Then do what RUDY suggested. I bet a 100 yen coin will ring out nice and sweet. (I will have to test that this weekend)
It has been a few years since I have been there. My wife and daughter are there now. Spending the summer with my inlaws. Which brings up another thought. I do not have mother-in-law problems, never will. She is 7000 miles away and doesn't speak a word of english. ;D ;D
