Can anyone recommend a cheap pair of headphones? I don't hunt in particularly noisy areas, so reducing exterior noise isn't that important to me. Am I correct in assuming that sound quality isn't that important? I'm not listening to any symphonies or anything. I'm looking in the $20-$30 range. TIA and HH

Hi Trodgor, Welcome to the forum I was at the local Orchard Supply hardware store yesterday and happened to see a pair of earphones (made by Philips) in your price range. They have individual volume controls. The earphones where located in the area where they sell the electrical stuff (lightbullbs, door bell buttons,...). HH Rudy

Sound quality is actually VERY important. If you try to find deep old coins you need the best headphones you can find. Most detectors come with a set which is either manufactured by or at least specifically FOR the metal detector manufacturer. My Explorer came with Koss headphones. Athena broke her jack when falling down the hillside in Belmont. I had a diff. brandnew set of headphones which came with the el cheapo metal detector we got for our daughter and it is a HUGE difference. Things definetely don't sound the same. Don't save on the wrong end and get frustrated or give up. White's sells headphones for their machines for $50. I am sure other manufacturers of md's are in the same price range. Good luck and HH. Thank you all for your responses. I forgot to mention another reason why I don't think sound quality is that important: my detector, a Garrett GTA 350, only makes loud, monotone beeps, regardless of the size or depth of the target. There's no faint targets to listen for; all targets are the same volume. I mostly just want the privacy and extra battery life. Thanks again and HH.

Hi, I have two pairs of headphones -- My dad gave me the metal detector for Christmas and bought me a nice pair of stereo headphones, recommended by the Whites dealer.
I later bought an extra pair at the flea market for a buck and they actually work better than the originals.
My problem has never been with hearing the actual variations in sound -- It's been in learning to trust my metal detector to tell me the truth. It is a Classic II, (inexpensive, basic model)but I have to say -- It is truthful, trustworthy, and sometimes.... as good as gold! (pun intended!) Wink

Has anyone used the Koss QZ-5 headset? Its made to be used with handheld radio scanners and metal detectors. Listed around 30 to 40 bucks.
