I recently sold a bracelet that I found. With that money, I bought my dad a new detector. We chose a tesoro Vaquero. We got the machine within three days from when we sent for it. It arrived this Saturday. My dad and I figured that since we had nothing better to do, then we should detect with the new machine at the beach.
So we went to Redondo this Sunday. I brought the QXT, and my dad brought the new Vaquero. I spoiled it for him by testing out the new machine first so I can "get a feel for it, and try to get the right setting."
Well I was picking up aluminum everywhere. I was digging pulltabs deeper than I ever have before, couldn't believe the depth! I went to a sloped section of sand next to the first lifeguard station, closest to the pier, I find a pulltab in front of this family of Hispanics. I got another signal and figured that it was another pulltab. I dig maybe 8 inches down and there in the scoop was this beautiful Gold ring with a diamond. It is small and has been worn well. This was about 5 minutes from the start of hunting. Great Scott!
I was doing so well that my dad had to rip the machine away from me. After about 20-25 minutes, I had to switch to the QXT. I found about 20 quarters within an 8 foot spot. One after another, nothing but quarters. Found a silver toe ring and a super thin gold chain. I went up the top of the sloup in the open and hit a really good signal. I dug and in the scoop was probably the largest coin that I have ever found. Thought it was some weird colonial silver dollar at first because of the face on the front. My thrill was shortlived when I saw 1967 under the face. The back has a neat volcanic island. It is from Polynisia, it says 50f and I believe it is french. Maybe it means 50 franks? Next find, about 1 foot away, I get a good signal and find one of those light up, battery operated charms, and the batteries are still good. It works great. Found a token, 24 quarters, and many dimes. Fun time, maybe I'll get in my backyard with the Vaq and see if I can dig something deep.
