Nice JD, that's just about the only thing you haven't found! So now that there's nothing left for you to find, will you be selling the XLT?! HH! Rick ;D

Congrats on the great find. I have been detecting for more than 35 years and have never found a gold coin that was not made into jewlery. I have found many compacts that I tossed without looking inside, all of which must have contained gold coins.

Boy, that is a beaut! This goes to show, women who wear excessive amounts of makeup are gold diggers. Just kidding.

J.D., That coin is just as pretty in the New Old Forum, as it was in the Old New Forum. ....let's see, did I get that right?

The charming Victorian female who lost her compact must have said some interesting things when she noticed that missing. That is a fantastic find and story! Gary

Congratz! Do you know of others in your state that have found gold coins? The reason I ask is, they say that for some reason, the mid-west and eastern state md'rs don't find many gold coins. Like, there are hard-core hunters over there, with scores of colonials, busts, large cents, etc..... and yet have never found a gold coin. Over here in CA, there are hunters that've found several each. I mean, if you go into a club over here, with, let's say 30 or 40 members, it's not unusual to have several of them that've found gold coins, or know of them being found by others in the area. But back east, a group of 30 or 40 guys might collectively know of only 1 or 2 that've ever turned up in their area. I wonder why that is? Why would gold coins be circulated any more in the west, than in the other states? Any idea OT?

Man, JD, that's the kind of story and find that keeps us all going. Really sort of a discovery of a lifetime. Many congratulations--that's not only a beautiful coin, but a wonderful bit of history.

Dan
