Hi everyone, I’ve wanted to try my hand at Metal Detecting for a while. Yesterday I finally ordered my metal detector (Bounty Hunter Tracker IV), it seemed like a decent beginners tool at a very reasonable price (100$). Does anyone have any comments about this brand? (good…bad…etc) Also can anyone suggest a location for practice, other than my backyard…which I lack. Other wise, just wanted to say hi to everyone.

Hello Rover! Welcome to a great hobby and a great forum. I'm from Florida and they treat me like I was from Cali!
As far as places to try, I would suggest the local parks (especially the tot sand lots), the beach (if you live near one), freinds houses if they have old homes (older than the 1960's), and any other place if you can get permission. I don't recommend detecting on someone's property without express permission first. You can also try school tot lots if they are not locked and gated in.
If you post on this board, folks will try to help you. Good luck; find the good stuff- I know you can. HH, Joe

G'day rover. Welcome to the fold mate. Be prepared to become hopelessly addicted to groveling on the ground with your hand in a hole. I'm a newbie to this as well, but have already found some goodies. Sorry i can't tell you jack about your 'tector, as I use a different model, but fishnchips is right. The playgrounds with the sand lots are a good place to go have a nosey. A good way to learn what your 'tector is "telling" you. Bits of crap like tabs and foil etc and then the odd coin or 10...
Happy Hunting ( HH ) ;o) Johnny

Welcome Rover,I would go with what Joe said as far as place's to hunt. Know for the Bounty hunter,it is a good machine to start on,the depth is not that great. If you get really hooked on this hobbie, then eventually you will be like the rest of us ;DYou will want more depth and better target I.D.,and if you don't want to buy brand new then there are other site's plus are's that have a classified section where folk's are alway's saleing there equipment. It may be they are saleing it to up grade or just wanted to try out one of the new machine's that are out.HH,Tom
