Hello all.....well I think that I have the bug and I haven't even held a metal detector yet. I have been reading all sorts of great information on this site as well as many other personal sites. I bought the detectorist and have already read through it and I'm sure I'll read it a dozen more times. I purchased a bounty hunter through e-bay which should have been here last Friday.....unfortunately for me, UPS complications have delayed it's arrival until the 19th!! Just wanted to say hello to everyone and say that this is really a fun and informative site. I hope to get to meet and possibly hunt with some of you. HH.....Joe.

Thanks for the welcome. Finally got my detector in two days ago. ;D ;D Been practicing in my back yard. I have a Time Ranger from Bounty Hunter. From what I've been told, I could have done worse. I'd really like to go detecting with a veteran who can help hone my skills....of which I have nada! Couple of weeks of practice in the ol' yard and hopefully I'll be ready to branch out to parks, schools, etc. If anybody in the Roseville-Sacto area wants a hunting buddy...let me know.
HH.......Joe

Welcome, I used a bounty hunter for a month before I got my mine lab and this may be a tip you can use. I found that if you get a signal on one edge of the coil and then again on the other side as you make your sweep that it is not a coin. A coin will only sound over a small area in the center of the coil.
I found 9.5 lbs of coins in 4 weeks with mine.

Welcome Joe, we all were a rookie at somepoint, I joined the Metal Detecting Club "The North West Treasure Hunters", in Spokane,WA and learned a lot from some of them. I also learned to NOT get MAD at finding POP TOPs and PULLTABS, because we would keep them and turn them in at the meeting to the lady who kept them to turn into Ronald McDonald House. We would turn in abut 250lbs a year when I was there. I don't know if they got something for each one from the Soda Manufactures or just got Scrap AL for them but it was a good feeling when you turned in a Gallon ZipLock baggy each month when others were turning in quarts and it showed in the # of RINGs I got compared to others who used higher Disc. I used to get 4000+/- coins a month when I was there. OH by the way Ferman When??? did you sleep when you were getting those "9.5 lbs of coins in 4 weeks" or did you follow the ARMORED TRUCK around and snag a few lbs when they dropped them??? just kiddin thats awsome would you like to tell us where and how you did it?
