But how about this:
2 balls of lead are dropped at the same moment from the same height of a building. One weighs 1 pound, the other one weighs 5 pounds. Which one hits the ground first?

The weight of Gold is based on the Troy System...the weight of Feathers, on the other hand, is based on the Avoirdupois system. Since a Troy pound weighs 12 ounces, and an Avoirdupois pound weighs 16 ounces...the pound of feathers weighs more. When we measure ounces, a Troy ounce weighs 31 odd grams, and an Avoirdupois ounce weighs in at 28 odd grams. So, the heaviness is reversed, and the Gold weighs more. Send me the GOLD!! HH Ron (CA)

Two magnets of equal size and strength are dropped down different tubes of the same length and diameter, only one tube is made of glass and the other is made of copper. which magnet hits first? Glass tube is quicker-- Copper tube is slower -- due to the force in response to the induced current in the tube wall. HH Ron (CA)

This was directed towards the newbies but it looks like we caught Martin! Ron is right: a troy pound of gold is 12 troy ounces a regular pound is 16 ounces a troy ounce is 31.1 grams a regular ounce is 28.35 grams. A pound of feathers is heavier.

Goldie............... Your question had nothing in it referring Troy weight. "Which is heavier- an ounce of gold or an ounce of feathers? If you got that one here is another: Which is heavier- a pound of gold or a pound of feathers?" Gold, can be weighed using either, the Troy or the Avoirdupois system. You can weigh Bull $hit using the Troy system if you so desire. One can only infer from the wording of your query, ( pound-ounce) that you were referring to the Avoirdupois system. Using this logic, we can see Martin was right, there is no differance in their weight. Now, would you like to extend your apologizes to Mr. Martin, or would you like me to do it for you?............ ;D I don't think I've heard the last of this ............. R~

The pending Peach world record holder: Measuring approximately 5 inches in diameter and weighing 721 grams (25.6 oz.), the peach eclipsed the previous record-holder, which weighed in at only 488 grams. Now a peach that size is a whopper!! So I would say that a LARGE peach could be heavier than a small grapefruit!! A size 56 Grapefruit (small) is only 3 5/16" in diameter HH Ron (CA)
