Hi all. I am new to the board and I am glad to know you are all out there to help the beginners like myself. I just bought my first Metal Detector and It is a DXF. I find the Basics easy but the rest of the manual is hard to understand right now. I have not left my yard yet to try it out and can't wait. So far all I have found Is nails. So wish me luck. Nice to meet all of you. Carole

Welcome, Carole. I'm just getting started here myself, but I'm sure you will find, as I did, a great source of information and great people willing to share. HH Siddiki

Hi Carole, Welcome to the forum. We are glad you are here and look forward to seeing your progress with your new machine. I don't know about the DFX, but many here do, and I am sure they will be glad to help you. I find that once you have the basics of new machine down, it is time to test it out. After a good hunt or two, you will find that the manual makes a lot more sense. Good luck, and Happy Hunting, JimClick ps. the DFX is a great machine.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I also wanted to know what the word wheat meant?

Hi Carole and a big WELCOME. You got a great detector in the DFX. Start with the factory programs until you have a little time operating it. Bury a test garden in your yard with a quarter, dime, nickle, etc. and practice swing over it.
Wheats are the older (wheat ears on the back) pennies made from 1909 until 1959. HH Dan3

pages.prodigy.net/bestsmileys1/emoticons3/welcome3.gif [/img] Horray, another lady detectorist! I have a dfx also. I am still on the learning curve. When I'm not at the beach I use the dfx. So far I'm just watching the readout screen and digging all solid signals. The screen is limited to a few icons and not always correct. Be brave and try a few local parks. You will get there. Hey Martin, Your expertise would be appreciated. AG

I can't get over how nice you all are. It must be this Metal Detector thing because I sure am in a good mood nowadays myself. It is relaxing. I was out in my yard this morning tring to find SOMETHING in the dirt. I found this strange rock that really lit up the detector. It has holes in it and very rusty and dark. I know it must be some kind of nickel. Or maybe volcanic rock of some sort. Not of any value I guess. I am worried about collecting all these beeping things and saving them for the guy who sold me my detector. I don't want to drive him bonkers with, Whats this? Whats that?

Are you sure that rock you dug up wasn't a meteorite? Some of them are worth more than gold! Dan3

Hi goldhart, boy that would be nice wouldn't it? No I am not sure it isn't a meteorite. Is there a web site about them? I found two so far.
We have lots of rock here at our house. I will look up some sites today and see what I find out. Thats what my husband thinks it is.
