Marc, That depends on how much money you are willing to spend and how much beach time you will be putting in over a year.
I bought a $30.00-$40.00 detachable long handle scoop that detached to a short handle scoop. I fabricated and bolted on my own foot plate made from strap steel and now it is a permanent long handle scoop. For a small investment I have a sturdy unit that will take hours of abuse.
If you have the $150.00-$200.00 to spend on an aircraft aluminum unit, then you don't need any advice. Those types are all good.
I would not get a short handle scoop, unless you are under 30 years of age, with a good back. Good Hunting. Just my two bits worth. GaryC/SanBdno

beach scoops are a tough decision, it also depends on where you hunt . in the water[where you are acually in the water, not on wet sand, you want something large enough so you don`t miss the target, but not so large as to become cumbersome out there, also with the current it will become harder than your detector coil to hang on to, so it has to be as sheer as possible, i once bought a top of the line aluminum, huge jobber, that thing drug me all over the place, but in a lake it would have worked well. if you in the dry/wet sand get one with a wire sceen on it,not the ones with holes punched in them, the wire sift`s sand easy, and after a hundred or so targets ,you will apritiate that. so with that here is my favorites. for a hand scoop i would use a crylar stainless steel scoop,or the gavanized all purpose scoop, pt. #427-13 and 427-12, for water and wet and dry i like the beachmaster 45, it`s light and durable and is one piece constuction, the ones that unscrew do just that when your using them, so i never use them. scoops are allot like detectors ,you need at least 2 for varying conditions, hope this helps zman
