 Club Hunt Sites / Suggestions
« Thread Started on Jan 10, 2003, 11:52pm »

As the just elected Hunt Coordinator for the San Jose Club, I'm looking for suggestions.

We're all been to Club Hunts, and in the back of our minds, thought of a few things that we wished that the Hunt Coordinator could-a, would-a, or should-a done.

Now is the time to express them!

If you have any ideas - suggestions - I would appreciate. Those that know me - know that nothing is too extreme for me.

And - even if you're not a member of the San Jose Club - chime in !

As a baseline, we're always looking for hunt locations that are:

-Reasonably easy to get to, not too far away (within say 1 hour drive - at most!!)

-A picnic area with BBQs / Tables

-Restroom facilities

-With nearby / next to an area that would be appropriate for Metal Detecting Hunts.

My understanding is that State Beaches are somewhat of a "No No"... unless one is sneeky. (Rick - great job!)

But, I do love State Park / Beaches. (Eric - suggestions on "How to?" or who to talk with?

Ideas on alternate prizes, other than coins, etc -- would be great. I hear that the "Jimmy Sierra figure" is still looking for a home - eh ? I would love to see that as a rotational trophy for the person with the MOST targets at each hunt.... !

I've seen actual hunts where they have tossed out over 2,000 Real Silver Rosies and more! I've seen hunts with 25+ detectors being given away... (then again, they had $80 entry fees and about 200 participants!) Categories for those under 15 that want to detect, and can complete in their own class. You get the idea. Nothing too complicated - but just fun and interesting.

Understand, there's NOTHING wrong with a standard hunt - they're great in and of themself. They were designed and perfected by others wiser. Or learn from experience.

I want to build on their experience and try and take it a step further.

There are some great ideas out there for things to do, and I would love to hear them.

Thanks !

Steve - Hunt Coordinator '03

well my fantasy hunt would be on the goat doctors property.

40 mile desert hunt. it was done once, would be great to do it again.

alum rock park would be nice. they have picnic areas.

how about instead of just roosies, we have a variety of coins for the standard marked coins. maybe a sprinkling of barber dimes and mercury dimes.

how bout some foreign coinage as well.

Hi Brian,

The 40 mile desert trip was a lot of fun, and those type of hunts are actually handled by the Field Trip coordinator. I think Steve was asking about Club"planted" Hunt suggestions.

Brian, I think that because you have been working the mid-night shift that you have missed out on several of the Club Hunts.
The last two years I believe more than 90% of the dimes were Mercury Heads and we also through in some Barber head dimes plus 30 or more special prizes. We have discussed recently in the board meetings about putting out additional coins ie; Wheatbacks, Buffalo's, and some V nickles along with the marked tokens.

I hope to see you out on one of the Club Hunts or Club Field trips.

Clarification: Club Hunt Sites / Suggestions
« Reply #3 on Jan 11, 2003, 11:01am »

Folks,

Just for a little clarification... I was just looking for some suggestions from folks that may have attended some interesting Club Hunts in the past... or have suggestions for local locations that might not have been used or considered in the past.

Not planning any field trips (!)

Just information and idea gathering here... not really "discussing" per se !

* smile *
